Marion County Public Library
Local artist Debbie Hayhurst will be showcasing her work during the month of September in our exhibit room. Debbie works in several different medias including oils, pen and ink, and watercolor. She also paints backdrops on queen-size sheets and creates life-size wooden animals.
The Marion County Public Library will host a book signing by local children’s author Linda Stevenski on Friday, September 20th from 10:00-12:00.
In addition to hosting Banned Books Week, September is also Library Card Sign-Up Month. People who sign up for a library card during this month will be entered into a drawing for a Banned Books Basket. Two winners will be drawn on October 1st: one adult, one teen.
MCPL's Adult Craft Class will meet Tuesday, September 17th at 4:00pm. In honor of Banned Books Week, we will be creating a Banned Books Card Case. No supplies are needed, but registration is required.
In celebration of the early arrival of fall and the legend of Johnny Appleseed, the library will have a family event September 28th from 2:00-3:00pm. Join us for activities, coloring fun, and treats to celebrate this legendary figure and the delicious apple.
Story Hour is open to pre-school age children (generally 3-4 years), and meets weekly on either Wednesdays or Thursdays at 10:30am.
Have you outgrown your stuffed animals, but don’t have the heart to toss them? Mount them! Learn how at MCPL on September 9th at 5:00pm. Registration required. Sign up before September 7th. Bring an old stuffed animal with you (one that you don’t mind cutting up).
Due to popular demand, MCPL will host a monthly trivia contest for teens. Show off your brain power and win some prizes on September 24th at 4:30pm.
Starting on September 14th at 10:00am, MCPL will host a monthly chess club for teens in grades 6-12. Join us for chess & snacks!
Needed: Opinionated teens, grades 6-12, to offer library advice and devour snacks.
